2015 Camden Classic  -  This Sunday

 

Sunday, 1 February 2015 will mark the 36th anniversary of the prestigious 400 metre Camden Classic and 400 metre Camden Women’s Classic footraces.

 

In the tradition of the Bay Sheffield, the City of West Torrens Camden Classic Carnival is conducted by the SA Athletic League and the Camden Athletic Club, with athletes from all parts of Australia heading to Camden Oval, corner of Morphett Rd and Anzac Highway, Camden Park.

 

In the main race over 400 metres for men, last year’s Camden Classic victor, Victorian Robert Spencer, will be up against the likes of other former winners Matthew Hargreaves, David Palmer and Matthew Cousins, as well a huge amount of impressive youngsters coming through the ranks.

 

The Camden Women’s Classic will feature former winners Katherine Robb, Yasmin Openshaw, Pirrenee Steinert and Andrea Sparrow looking for further glory.

 

The afternoon’s entertainment will see races for open, veteran, junior and women athletes from 120 metres to 1,600 metres, as well as special races for local footballers and umpires.

 

Popular race caller Terry McAuliffe will be on hand to describe all the action. Kids races will be conducted for all children under the age of 12 present on the day. Barbecue and bar facilities will be available and entry is free to the public.
