Saturday 12th August is our now annual Charity Game.
​
This year we will be supporting:
​
The Karen Fitzgerald Fund for Children and Young People
The Karen Fitzgerald Fund for Children and Young People has been established in memory of Karen Fitzgerald OP OAM to:
-
Assist children and young people and their families to access resources and experiences which build confidence and abilities which they may not otherwise be able to access.
-
Assist those dedicated persons working in children’s lives to continuously challenge and improve their practice for better outcomes for children and families.
As we have done in the past, the guernseys will be auctioned off following the game.

The reason the prison bar PHOS guernsey was chosen was because Karen was a mad (and very much one-eyed) Collingwood supporter.

About Karen
​
A Dominican Sister for more than 40 years, Karen Fitzgerald OP OAM was a deeply spiritual person who dedicated her life to helping others. With a keen sense of humour and a love for laughter and family, particularly children, she was able to balance her life with a commitment to helping families and children who were hurt, lost and unable to find positive life influences to sustain them.
​
A champion for children’s safety and rights, Karen was the inaugural director of the Child Protection Service at Flinders Medical Centre, a position she held from 1989 until her retirement in November 2011.
She was considered a pioneer in the protection of children who had been abused and neglected and was internationally recognised, receiving an OAM for her services to children and families. She influenced the practice of staff in many agencies and had a passion for continuous learning and development.

In her private life Karen supported a number of humanitarian and social justice causes and was particularly involved in the support of Refugee families and children.

The Phantoms raised $4500 for Beyond Blue
​

The Phantoms top off a great day by defeating our neighbours by 4 points.

Camden Oval provided a typical mid winter bog.
A specialially designed jumper (by player Steve "Hot Dogs" Williams) was worn by all the A grade players and all auctioned later that night to help raise $4500.

Current player Nick Ramsey with father Steve, Steve played in the 1st ever PHOS team 1971, 44 years later Nick wears the same number 3 jumper.
July 18th 2015 The Phantoms paid tribute and raised funds for the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.
Not surprisingly there are a number of women connected to our club who have suffered breast cancer. We are really proud that our Senior A team chose to dedicate Sponsors round to raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer. We had a range of activities throughout the day to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Network of Australia including the sale of pink cupcakes, raffles, pink champage and pink lemonade for the kids. That evening in the clubrooms team Breast Cancer Guernseys were auctioned. 100% of proceeds from all funds raised will go to the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.
