Quinnys Post Match Report

Well Saturday got off to a great start with our C Grade notching up the first win for the club this year. Well done lads.

Unfortunately the two's were out played a bit early and a very hard working Unley side took the game away. To the boys credit they fought back and I'm sure with a re straightening they will bounce back this week.

On to the A grade and I think it's fair to say 5 months of working away at pre season came out in the first quarter. Unley are a good side and showed that as the game wore on but our guys were up early and played a brand of footy that we hope signifies our values. Everyone was up early and our pressure to win the footy, share it and then be direct to goal was great to watch.  To go in considerable leaders at quarter time exceeded expectations but reflected the standard set.

As expected, Unley rallied and by half time we really had a game on our hands. They were good through their mids and ultimately this brought others in to it. The third quarter played out with us taking a four goal lead in.

The last saw us open the game with some great run and team footy which made life as a forward easier.

A really good 8 goal win against what i think is a really good side in Unley.

Good players were plenty with Tom Underwood going in to defence for us to cover losing TJ a great thing for us, Bergs, Ruwy and Rama very active in the mids supported by Josh Bayliss, Liam Jacka and Glen Soper. Big fellars Orry and Harry were terrific and our backline led by Shaz and Ingo as solid as ever. Gordo was good and to finish with 4 goals along with Bergs 4 and Ruwy 3 a good sign. Sam Underwood took the honours with 5 and seeing him back in our jumper was very pleasing.

When we put a black arm band on to honour one of our people, in this case it doesn't get much closer than Chris Morgan it is important to not take things or the game for granted. Im sure Morgs would be happy.

After Satdy, we have things to work on and address which we will. We played well but are very much learning about each other. The players know this.

A really good first up effort.

Ta Quinny.

Craigs Post match report

Last Saturday was a good chance to kick off our season with a win against a quality opponent in Unley on our home deck. Unfortunately we weren’t quite ready for the pressure that our opposition applied and after a sluggish first half we found ourselves playing catch up footy all day.

To the boys’ credit they came out after half time with a bit more aggression and intensity at the footy and gave themselves a chance of  snatching the game in the last few minutes but the skill errors that plagued us through the game brought us undone and we couldn’t quite capitalise on the good work up the ground resulting in a two goal loss.

Ben Toohey led the goal kicking with two while Sam Williams, Declan Grant and Jack Loades all kicked one each.

Declan Grant was best on ground dominating on his wing and leading the way with his attack on the ball while Anthony Flett was consistent all day plugging holes for us both up forward and in defence and Henry Finn was third best by showing courage in the packs by putting his head over the ball.

The boys showed great character and fight after half time, but we need to learn from this game by preparing well with intensity on the track and bouncing back against Scotch OC by putting in a four quarter effort on the field this Saturday.

Well done to the A’s and C’s on convincing wins first up and Sam Taylor’s first win as Coach.

Cheers,

Craig B.

Samuels C grade report

Saturday gave us the first introduction to C grade for 2017, with some youthful exuberance pulling on the jumper for the first time combining with some experienced old heads to notch up our first win for the year.

Instructions were pretty clear from the outset that we wanted to dominate contested ball and make sure that our work-rate and ability to cover the ground was greater than the jets. Use of space was paramount and our ability to get link up overlap from the back half in the first two quarters allowed us to setup the win.

Unley gave us a bit to think about in the third term, but it was only a speedhump as we powered on kicking 6 goals to nothing in the last. Phillo and Wardy led from the start winning numerous ball inside and outside, providing plenty of drive in the middle. Jake Res got on the end of a few kicking 4, but it was his relentless pressure around the contest that allowed our forwards to pin the ball in and capitalise on opportunities. Chueng gave us constant run all over the field whilst Kris Ball in his first game for the club provided balance and assuredness off half back. Massive props to Phillo, Bally, Blythey, Hully and Hendo for their first games for the club. Huge thanks to the Porter lads for filling in!

Congrats to the A's, chin up to the B grade lads, heads down and the chocolates will come.

Big game this week against Scotch in a rematch of our 2015 Grand Final win!

cheers

Quinnys A grade pre game report

Round 1 is finally upon us and no doubt we are all looking forward to kicking off the season against Unley who have come back from Division 1 and are no doubt a very good side.

At A grade level we welcome new players to our club in Ritchie O'Grady as a playing assistant coach, Harrison Cumming and Liam Jacka as well as welcoming back Daniel Hill, Harry Young and the Underwood brothers, Tom and Sam. We will also be introducing Liam Toohey to A grade footy this Satdy from last years U/18 teams.

We have had a change of leadership which sums up the selfless attitude of our former Captain Aaron Bergsma who will continue to be himself around this group but has handed the captaincy to Jake Scharenberg, our captain for 2017 to be supported with Sam Inglis and Jarrad Braley as Vice Captains and Ryan Reavley as Deputy Vice Captain. With blokes like Bergs, Ruwy, Ritch and other experienced players around we look forward to the lads learning and forming their leadership values and principals to take our club further forward.

I would like very much to thank Pete Arbery for all his work in contracting and assisting this club to get the best team possible available in what. An be a thankless job. He has been greatly assisted by Greg Buss and others and I hope you can take great satisfaction with the teams selected to represent our club.

We wish Ritchie Resnais (U/18's) in the weeks to come and Sam Taylor (C grade) all the best on their coaching debuts and Craig and the 2's kicking off tomorrow as well.

We have made tough calls at selection and this is what as a club wanting success we need. The attitude of disappointed players was excellent last night and this represents the culture of our club. It stings but its healthy.

Wishing all the players all the best tomorrow, play hard and play to make your mate the best they can be. Most importantly, lets enjoy it.

Lastly, thanks very much to the club for their continued and ongoing support to us as coaches and players.

Ta, Quinny.
