Quinny' s A grade Postmatch report

I wrote on Friday about challenges issued during the week! Boys answered as well as you can.....

Saturday gave us a great opportunity to correct some things we didn’t execute well from the week before. As a result  we produced a very clinical display of football that I’m sure the lads were very excited and proud about as the reward for the win is a Preliminary Final against Brighton this week.

The first ten minutes of Saturdays game was every bit a final. The pressure and the fierceness at the footy was great from both teams. We withstood Broadviews pressure and attacking drives and then pounced when we were able to take a four goal lead in to quarter time. The pressure on them was superb.

The second was two goals a piece and our game plan was certainly evolving with the players pulling it off with good decisions.

4 goals up at half time with all players influencing the game and coming in to the third quarter where I felt we made another statement. Although we didn’t blow it away which Broadview are far to good a side to allow that our footy was suggesting we’d get it done.

Our last quarter was solid and pretty polished to get a 5 goal win. No injuries and players in form and buzzing.

If you heard the way the lads sang the song it was full of purpose.

Goal kickers were Matt Jac with 4 in a top game playing his role as we needed it. Bergs and Virg with 2 each and singles to Liam Jacka, Wattsy, Sam Williams and Harry Cumming

Our best were hard to pick. Harry Cumming was terrific with a work rate second to none. He is loved by the boys and gives his all. Virg was great in the mids and forward and Boof and Reavs along with all our defenders were mean and clever as all backman should be giving us fantastic one on ones. Matty Jac was very good and I feel there is more to come. Dane Laing did his job and as did everyone. Special mention to Deano Bonnici, Josh Bayliss and Liam Toohey who had it squared at them and answered the right way and I throw Dec Grant in to that as although he didn’t play he trained to give himself a go. Orry Cross terrific in ruck.

Our best was Aaron Bergsma. Great players respond and he is a club great. Made a statement early and went on with it.

Thanks to our support network and to Kenilworth FC who hosted a good day.

Looking forward to the week.

Ta, Quinny

The big question is what happened in round 17 when Unley upset Broadview by 45 points. If Broadview had won this game, they would off finished in 2nd spot, double chance and a home final.  They lost, finished 4th and had to replay Unley last week which they won by 8 points.

Its all history now and more important is what happens this Saturday where the Phantoms have their first "home game" since round 9 June 2 (12 weeks ago!) albeit the games at St Marys (the point being it’s not at our oppositions ground). St Marys Park is a massive oval and should suit our runners and provide more space for our forwards.

At our best we win this game, if not its all over for 2018.

So after a good week on the track and some clear lines drawn on our standards that we should set ourselves as individuals and a team we are set for Broadview up at Kenilworth tomorrow. I am very confident we will get an effort and result more like us tomorrow and where that leaves us we will find out.

We noted Some Broadview players need to throw jibes at our players via  their all important Social media outlets after they beat us five weeks ago. We get our chance to quieten that as they get their chance to justify the need. All this adds to the flavour of a huge game.

We lose Mark Yeatman to Bali on holiday with the family that was booked prior to Yeata returning to footy. We are proud of the fact we have young man loving footy again and setting himself for 2019. Declan Grant comes out and I compliment him on his ability to absorb some coaching this week and should we push on he comes in to calculations. I also take my hat off to Sam Webster Tom Unger and Sam McGill who give us a strong group to choose from.

Returning are Curtis Harms and Ben Toohey who have both declared themselves fit and backed it up, displaying just the attitude we as a Team require. Well done lads.

Please if nothing doing, come support our men who  WILL walk off having given all!

Ta, Quinny
