Quinnys Post Match report 

​

Saturday we went down to a side who came to play in a way that perhaps we were at 2 weeks ago. Our skill level let us down and although Gaza's pressure was very good most of mistakes were un pressured. They made us pay and with a 4 goal 9 third quarter we had our chance to stabilise and win the game. 

 

Good players were Marc Ruwoldt, excellent all day with Hamish Gordon and Luke May not far off. Ritch O'grady was very good and his physical assertion on the game was instrumental to giving us a chance, hence the Over 35's award going to Ritch. Youngy and Tom Finn good in defence and Harry Cumming tried very hard up forward. Goal kickers were spread. 

 

Well done to Craig, Sammy T and Ritchie Resnais on good wins for the club with their lads. 

 

Congrats to Gilbs on 300 games. Great achievement. 

 

Looking forward to Satdy V Broadview to correct a couple of things.

Craigs post match report

Last Saturday was a good team effort against Gaza who certainly tested us physically in the B Grade. Our ability to concentrate on what we needed to do and play the game on our terms for 4 quarters with 21 contributors was definitely the difference.

​

Our challenge once we had a sizeable lead was to find that next gear and be ruthless which is a trait that needs to be shown if we want to be a side at the pointy end of the ladder and our boys came to the party by kicking 8 goals in the last quarter to really drive the win home.

​

We now have a forward structure that is paying dividends with Declan Grant and Tom Ward both kicking 4 goals and we had Liam Toohey, Jack Loades and Mitch Molnar with 2 each and another host of single goal kickers this week spreading the load which is a good sign.

​

Tom Ward had a day out on his wing with four goals and a ton of touches, setting up plenty of good ball for our forward line. Dean Bonnici was great in the ruck again this week giving us first use of the ball and using it well when he got his opportunities while Ben Toohey and Liam Toohey are having good consistent seasons to date. Josh James was getting into good spots gave us plenty of run off his back flank and Declan Grant has shown good form in the last few weeks as a dangerous forward. All of these boys are working hard on their game and are putting their hands up for a chance at A Grade footy when the opportunity arises.

​

It was a great team game which came from 21 leaders last Saturday, we now need to keep this form going and not deviate from the structures and attitude we need to be a successful team.

​

Another tough one for the A’s last week who I know will work hard this week to get back on track and well done again to the C grade and Under 18’s on their results on the weekend.

SJT post match report 

​

Despite a slow start, we were able to follow up last week’s effort against Pembroke with a 57-point win over Gaza in Colin Gilby’s 300th game. Gilbs became just the third Phantom to reach the milestone, and was terrific playing at full back, including shutting down Andrew Jarman when he spent time forward. To go along with Gilby playing his 300th, we had Matthew Ramsey playing his first game for the club and was impressive in limited game time on debut.

 

Dominating the middle of the game, we had a 10 goal lead going into the fourth quarter which we weren’t able to push out further, and after a questionable goal-umpiring call we got a little deflated and let Gaza get a few goals back. Nevertheless we were able to keep them at bay and run out with a 57 point win.

 

Henry Finn put his hand up to come down from the B Grade in search of more consistent game time, and didn’t disappoint as he was unreal through all four quarters; his tackling pressure and ball-winning ability set us up for the win. Again our backline was instrumental in the win, with Matthew Blyth and Colin Gilby the two standouts, intercepting Gaza forward entries and setting us up going the other way. Nick Watts again showed why he played B Grade footy last year with a couple of goals and some brilliant tackling pressure. Jake Resnais with 3 goals and Daniel James with 2 were instrumental in our forward line, with both getting goals or setting them up with great forward line pressure.

 

Next week we face Broadview at home, usual 10:15 start time.

​

A good win by the boys against Rosewater, each week so far the side has been different with players either available or unavailable to play, but to the boys credit each game they have pulled together as a team and played some good football.

 

We were wondering what the game against Rosewater would be like, at times we were sucked into their style of play and lost our way which kept them in the game. When we spoke about this the boys played a great disciplined last quarter and opened the game up by their fast moving ball work , good skills and decision making.

 

What’s great about this side is no matter who comes in, they contribute, support each other and enjoy their football by playing as a team. Well done to all. RR

Soli Brown had a sensation game, with some great intercept marking, great attack on the ball and kicked 2 vital goals. Sam McCabe once again made the most of his opportunities kicking 5 goals and handing of a few.  Tom Edwards as usual his attack on the ball is first class also kicked a goal. Liam Toohey, when the game was on the line Toosa put himself on the ball and stood tall, kicked 2 goals and handed off a few.

Jack Porter, we were down on rucking options this week, when our main ruckman Tyler Irvine needed a break, Jack stood up to play one of his best games and kicked a vital goal when Rosie's were getting on top. Great to have Will Price back, always plays well and didnt dissapoint in this game on the wing. Hamish Williams very versatile player, but when we needed a crumbing forward, Hamish kicked 2 goals right on cue.

​

Thanks to all who put there hand up to play Rosewater, thats our longest trip out of the way.

A Grade pregame

​

Saturday sees a true test of character present for the A grade with Gaza coming to PHOS with a good three wins from four games so far this year.

 

We took a lot out of last weeks loss to Pembroke and the boys trained really well in response. It's what we do now as a group, all included that's really important. 

​

We lose Ryan Reavley For a couple of weeks and coming in to the side is Luke May. Both Luke and Liam Toohey showed tremendous leadership and maturity in the two's last week after being unlucky not to be in the ones. That attitude of resilience and getting on with job sets a great example to many.

 

I had the pleasure of watching the U/16's and U/18's last weekend and the future of the club looks really bright with the young fellas coming through. The onus is on all of us to make sure the environment that we bring them in to is one built on respect for each other and a drive to get the job done with the Team and Club coming first. The very principals that Liam and Luke displayed. Well done lads. 

​

Congratulations to "Gilbs" on 300 games, a great achievement for yourself and your footy club. 

​

B Grade pre game report

​

After having a good win last week the challenge in the B Grade now is to get some consistency in our game, string some wins together and ensure every player is willing to do what they need for the team every time they pull on the Phantoms guernsey.

 

 

We are now at a crossroad in regards to our form and we need every player to be a leader on the field pulling in the same direction to get the results we want as a team and a club.

It’s encouraging as a coach to see our first year senior players starting to show some form and a bit of consistency and I’m sure these guys will be champing at the bit to keep their form line heading in the right direction.

We bolster our side this week with the inclusions of Harmsy and Mitch Blight who are both hard at it players and will give good support to our existing midfield in Liam Toohey, Brent Eddy and Co. to give us that edge we need against our opposition this week in Gaza.

 

The time to stand up as a team is now, we can set ourselves up for the rest of the year but only if everyone buys in!
