Quinnys Post Match report

Well done to all three sides on Saturday against Unley Mercedes Jets with three good wins. Both Craig and Sam doing a great job with their teams.

On to the A grade and after the Old Ignatians game we were left a bit flat inna lack lustre game that I'm sure both teams would forget. Saturdays game V Unley was anything but that.  There wasn't a lot of difference in the score all day with maybe both teams at some stage or another holding a 3 goal lead but the game was up for grabs all day.

We had some great character on display with both Dean Bonnici and Harry Young making scratchy starts before fighting back to play great games. Ryan Reavley was very good all day again thrown around by me in to positions of need. His steady head enables him to do this and support what we are doing as a team. Henry Papatolis on loan from the bays had a good game for us snd our backline was again really good. I'll give Orrs, Bergs, Rama, Ritchie O'rady and Ruwy a big mention for their efforts to get us up for a 5 point win. I gave the boys a spray at Henley and since then, they have slowly been sewing my mouth up. Ruwy's last 10 minutes I'm sure is well entrenched in our heads and was our best player.  Followed by Daniel Hill in. Great game.

Goals were spread around. Ruwy and Hilly 3 each.

So to be down late in the game after out to a 3 goal lead and get back and win was tremendous. As we all know we lost one of our true clubman on Saturday in Finny. Tom suffered a car crash like injury playing footy which happens but we never like to see. He handled it like the tough boy he his and still managed to crack bad jokes whilst in a bit of distress and pain. Great work by Shawry who did not leave Tom until we got him in the Ambulance. We all want for a strong recovery for Tom.

I can not speak highly enough of the Unley Football Clubs support of the incident, from their patience at the time right through to their genuine best wishes. A mark of a very good strong community club.

So yes it was a game to remember and keep up our sleeve for a number of reasons.

Scotch this week. Can't wait.

Ta, Quinny.

Craigs Post match report

Unley were always going to be tough last Saturday and they were hard at it in the first half. Our boys applied plenty of pressure both at the body and ball which started with Mitch Blight’s commitment to one of the first contests of the afternoon to set the tone for the rest of the game.

After going into the main break with a 2 goal lead the boys knew they had to take it to the next level and created turnovers by applying the screws every time Unley had the ball and capitalising up forward when we had our opportunities. This allowed us to dictate play and kick 16 goals to one in the second half.

Goalkickers were Jack Loades with 8, Hot Dogs with4, Wattsy with 3, Fletty with 2 and singles to Dane Laing, Ben Toohey and Cadz.

The result made it hard to pick best players and our top 3 players had outstanding, four quarter games and you could have put them in any order but Mitch Molnar came out best with his hard work and physical pressure he applied to the opposition while Dane Laing had a great captain’s game, leading the way with his hardness at the ball and body while shutting down their prime mover in the middle. Josh Bayliss had a massive impact in the middle getting plenty of the ball around stoppages and breaking lines with his run and carry to set up our forwards while Jack Loades with his 8 goal haul and his forward pressure was unlucky not to be higher and Josh James down back and Jake Resnais up forward rounded out our best on the day.

It was a great four quarter effort with 21 contributors and non stop pressure last Saturday, something we have been aiming for all season and something we want to keep going for the remainder of this year.

Well done to the A’s in a gutsy performance and the C’s and Under 18’s to get the 4 wins for the weekend, let’s keep the momentum going!!

Cheers,

Craig B.

Robbo's post match report

After a tough month, we were finally able to get back on track with a five goal win over Unley.

I think the team will be the first to admit that it wasn't a four quarter effort, as we let a good start go begging with a poor second quarter. Nevertheless, after a few stern words from Tails and some honest assessment within the team, we were able to dominate the second half, and only inaccuracy in front of goal prevented us from a big percentage-boosting win.

After a month of slow starts, Tails and I put it on the team to start the game with aggression and attack the footy, and Tate Garnaut exemplified that with rabid tackling pressure and putting his head over the footy. Sammy Meyers and James Biagi were great as usual; getting five goals combined from your key mids is always gonna set you on track for a good game.

Daniel Krieg and Harry Sharp were also crucial in the win, as Kriegy's leadership in the back half helped set us up - especially in the second half. Sharpy played a little deeper than usual, and though he only kicked one goal he was crucial in setting us up and gave us a target going forward. Nick Eo followed up his strong game against Old Iggies with a solid effort, and only uncharacteristic wayward kicking prevented him from kicking a bag, finishing with 2.6. Dylan Georgeson played well too, his early tap work gave us first use of the ball, and later his body work wore down the opposing ruckman.

Big thanks to Jack Porter, who came out and played the first half at full forward before jetting off to play footy for Immanuel. Having these under-18s come out and help us out if we're a bit short on numbers is huge, and helps set up the club for the future. Thanks go to Tablets as well, for putting the boots on and having a run around down forward, though I'm surprised he lasted longer than a minute after absolutely giving it to a bloke as soon as he came on the field!

Congrats to Quinny and Craig on their wins, and best of luck in recovery to Tom Finn. You'd be hard pressed to find a better clubman going around, and I'm sure he'll still be around the place as he recovers.

Quinnys Pre Match report

Saturdays game V Unley Mercedes is obviously a massive game to kick start the second half of the year. It's exciting to think we have more improvement to come and after a week refresh the lads are keen to get in to it.

We lose Gordo overseas for a few weeks and Harmsy, Tom Underwood and Glen Soper unfortunately didn't come up and welcome in Henry Papatolis for a game with us and Daniel Hill back and Liam Toohey earns another crack at A grade footy.

All the best to Craig and the 2's, Sam and the 3rds and Rich and the U/18's.

Footy seasons go quick and merge in to a big clump if there is nothing that sets it apart. We are playing and coaching for the now as this will help define our future.

Enough the chinese philosophical views. Let's get it done tomorrow.

Craigs Prematch report

After a good win before the bye week we now need consistency against quality opposition. Unley poses a good challenge as they knocked us off in round 1 and have found some good form in recent weeks and will be tough on their home deck.

The side looks a bit different to the one that beat Old Iggies with Liam Toohey and Brent Eddy getting call ups to the A Grade after good form in the Twos but we welcome back Tom Guliford, Nick Walters and Josh James to bolster our backline and ruck stocks.

We showed plenty of spirit in our last game, it now needs to be a constant factor in our games for the rest of the season along with pressure and intensity which will allow us to have control of our ladder position this season.

Good luck to the A's, C's and Under 18's this weekend, lets work hard for 4 wins!

Cheers,

Craig B.
